An overview of the improvements made in SAM from June to July of 2023:
Highlights:
- Clear separation of InReach users in Security Center
- Password Security Improvements
InReach Users
This feature provides you with enhanced clarity and control over user access, allowing you to easily identify who belongs to your agency and who is InReach personnel.
Clear User Identification: With the clear differentiation of InReach Users, you can now quickly identify and verify the individuals associated with your agency and distinguish them from external software personnel.
Access Control: This update enables you to implement more precise access controls and permissions for your users. You have same the flexibility to tailor permissions based on specific roles and responsibilities.
Password Security
This improvement is aimed at strengthening your password security and providing more control over password policies. Here's a brief summary of the changes:
-
Password Security:
- Special Character Requirement: We now recommend using special characters in your passwords for added security. This ensures that your passwords are more resilient against potential attacks.
- Password Length Best Practice: Longer passwords are now considered a best practice as they significantly increase the complexity of the password, making it harder to crack.
-
Password Expired Auto Action and Template:
- ADMIN | Team Email | Password Expired: This auto action is disabled by default but can be enabled to prompt users to reset their passwords every six months. SAM Leads can find this under Disabled Auto Actions and can make adjustments so the criteria meets their internal password policy and provide notification to the SAM Lead and/or IT team.

User Experience Improvements:
- Adjusted link to Public Forms
- We've given Public Forms a more intuitive name and a fresh new icon. You can access it from the Settings page of your SAM site:
- Sidebar Manager: Enable/Disable/Delete Improvement:
-
In the Sidebar Manager, SAM admins faced difficulties when attempting to disable or delete sidebar links that were created as "Anything" (i.e., links that point to external websites). These actions required developer access, making it less user-friendly for administrators. SAM admins can now easily disable or delete these sidebar links without the need for developer access.
-
- Email Importing Reports Accessibility Enhancement
-
The Email-Importing Reports have been optimized to better suit user needs. The Email-Importing | Emails | Advanced report has been made available exclusively to developers, ensuring that only relevant personnel can access advanced email-importing insights.
-
Additionally, the Email-Importing | Emails report has been re-exported, ensuring availability to all users.
-
- Back to Email Settings Hub Link Addition
- A "Back to Email Settings Hub" link has been added to the Email Importing Settings page to improve navigation. This link directs users to the centralized Email Settings Hub for more convenient access to related options.
Bug Fixes:
- Reset Usage Reports in Security Center
-
This addresses an issue where the reports in Security Center were pointing to the same report for both the current month and all months on SAM sites. With the fix in place, the reports now correctly display separate variations for the current month and all months, ensuring accurate and detailed usage insights.
-
- Automatic logout disabled after OAuth account settings changes
-
Previously, when users authenticated via OAuth and then returned to the SAM platform after completing OAuth steps with services like Microsoft or Google, they were unexpectedly logged out. This bug fix has resolved this behavior, and users will now remain logged in after OAuth authentication, even if account settings are modified.
-
- Email importing inconsistencies resolved
-
This bug fix addresses email importing inconsistencies experienced by users, which occasionally ended in error. To resolve the issue, special error handling has been implemented to catch OAuth-related errors more effectively. The fix ensures that the email importing job won't end in error even if it fails to obtain the token for a particular user at a specific time, thus providing a more reliable and consistent email importing experience for SAM users.
